Armistice Day

The First World War really made the world feel small for thousands. Soldiers from nations around the world shared a battlefield for over four years. Then at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month The Great War came to a ceasefire on the Western Front. This day became known as Armistice Day to remember those who died in war. It has remained with this title in France and Belgium. The British Commonwealth uses Remembrance Day while in the US we refer to Nov. 11th as Veteran's Day. Whatever the name it is a time to reflect upon the sacrifices people are willing to make to better mankind.

  1. I have always thought of Veteran's Day as Armistice Day. Everyone else's grandfathers found in World WarII, but mine fought in World WarI. Earl Kiser was a one room school teacher/farmer from Sugar Grove, WV, who voted for Wilson becaue he believed he would keep him out of war. In the long run he ended up in the Muse-Argonne Forest as a part of the 81st Battalion in an artilary unit. This summer I visted the same area he fought in. It was overwhelming seeing what he saw and sitting in the American cemetary being very thankful for his survival. I know understand why Pop (Earl)takled about the beautiful landscape but nothing about what he experienced. Seeing the sacrifices in human life that was made during the Great War make wonder why mankin has not been able to move away from war and to a world of peace.
